Common questions

What people ask before they book

Are my sessions private?

Yes, completely. What you say stays in the room. There is no medical record, and nothing goes to your employer or your family. The only limit is the legal duty every counsellor works under, the same at any clinic. We have two private locations, Raffles Place and Joo Chiat, and you can also meet online from home, which is often the easiest way to start when your energy is low.

Do I have to be at breaking point to come?

No. You don't need a diagnosis, and you don't need to have hit rock bottom. Plenty of people come because they're tired of feeling flat, going through the motions, or not like themselves, long before it becomes a crisis. If it's weighing on you, that's reason enough.

What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help?

Often the difference is fit, or the approach. The thing that decides whether therapy works is whether you click with your therapist, and many people give up after one who was not the right match. We match you deliberately to someone who treats depression day in and day out, and the free 15-minute call lets you check the fit first. If it is still not right, we will move you.

What if the therapist isn't right for me?

Tell us after your first session and we will match you with someone else. Fit is the single thing that makes or breaks therapy, so you are never stuck with the wrong one. The free 15-minute chemistry call is there to check the fit before you ever book a full session.

What happens on the free 15-minute chemistry call?

It is a short, no-pressure call with the therapist we have matched to you, not a salesperson. You talk through what is going on, get a feel for them, and decide if it is the right fit. No payment, no commitment. If it feels right, you book your first full session. If not, we will match you with someone else.

Does therapy actually help with depression?

Yes. Talking therapy is one of the most well-researched treatments for depression, and most people who stick with it feel meaningfully better. A therapist helps surface the thought patterns feeding the low mood that are hard to see on your own, then works with you to change them, often using CBT, or EMDR when it is tied to trauma or grief. Many notice a small shift in the first session or two. Lasting change is the work of a course, usually 10 to 15 sessions. If it isn't helping, we'll look at a different therapist or approach with you.

Do I need medication?

Not necessarily. For many people, therapy helps on its own. We are psychologists and counsellors, so we don't prescribe, but if medication is something you're considering or already taking, we can work alongside it and your doctor. We'll talk it through honestly rather than push you one way or the other.

What does it cost?

A 60-minute session ranges from $200 to $375 + GST, depending on the therapist we match you with. You are never locked into a package, and you decide as you go. If cost is a concern, bring it up on your free chemistry call. We offer a sliding scale and package rates, and we write the reports you need to claim on insurance.
